Meeting to the legend Mr. Xavi Hernandez in Mumbai!

From 17th to 20th of March I was in Mumbai to attend the Generation Amazing workshop. Generation Amazing, a program coordinated by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, is aimed at contributing to the lasting legacy of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and fulfilling Qatar’s promise to use the hosting of the event as a catalyst to empower people in Middle East and in Asia.

This event was hosted by Oscar Foundation and organised by Generation Amazing at the YWCA Colaba, Mumbai. The event was scheduled for 3 day’s and GAYA’s
(Generation Amazing Youth Ambassadors ) from all across India were invited to participate in.

The first goal of this event was to connect all the Indian GAYA’s together and to inaugurate 3rd Generation Amazing Pitch in India at the hands of Mr. Xavier Hernandez (Former National football player for Spain and former player of FC Barcelona) and other Supreme Committee members from Qatar.

17- March (One day ago workshop): On the first day, I and other GAYA’s along with some youth leaders arrived in Mumbai. After I had participated in a small group interaction with the other players, organized by the Oscar Foundation
in the evening, we all went to visit the Gateway of India and then we ate dinner in our hotel.https://shubham26091996.files.wordpress.com/2019/03/img_20190323_154120.jpg

18- March (First day of the workshop): The first day started with a warm welcome by Mike and Jasvinder (Head Coaches for GA). After this, all GAYA’s and other participants had a small discussion about their expectations in which everyone shared their workshop’s goals on the board. Coach Mike guided us on how we are going to achieve our expectations throughout the workshop and discussions.

We also went through discussions on different topics such as Girls Empowerment, Team Building, Communication etc. and also learned more about positive ways of communication on and off the field. We also created a plan for the visit of Mr. Xavier Hernandez and went through the activities that we had to deliver with children.

19-March (Second day of the workshop): On the second day of the workshop we met in the classroom. Coach Mike led us according to the plan. After this we came together to prepare the ground for the visit of Xavi. In the afternoon all players started to come. We all were divided into four different groups for four different pitches. Then the session started.

After a while, Mr.Xavier came onto the pitch and started taking part in each session. He was very happy to play with children who were very enthusiastic to get a unique chance to meet the legend in Mumbai.

Before the pitch inauguration ceremony, Mr. Xavier participated in small group matches with children. It was the first time for Mr.Xavier to inaugurate the football pitch in an Indian traditional way. After this, Mrs. Rosa led the program further and thanked each guest for their presence. In the following, all the journalist surrounded Mr.Xavier to get his insight about the program and about his past year experiences in the team of FC Barcelona.

Then Mr. Xavier joined all of us for a group photo. Each one of my group was very happy and excited to enjoy this non forgettable moment with him. The program finished at 4 O’ clock and we all went back to our classroom to have a review of the day and how to improve our planning method. After one and half hours nonstop discussions, suggestions and analysis, Coach Mike thanked us for giving an contribution to make this day even more great and successful. Shraddha (one of a GAYA’s) explained us the plan for the evening.

In the evening we went to hotel in which Mr.Xavier joined us for the dinner. It was the biggest moment and chance for all of us to have dinner with this legend. To make this special moment even more memorable, Shraddha sang a song with an office colleague. Everyone appreciated her voice very much. Because we were aware of the fact that Mr. Xavier would not meet us again, we all started to take selfies with him to remember this time for the rest of our life journey.

19-March (Last day of the workshop): On the last day, we received a certificate from the Generation Amazing team for participating on the workshop by the hands of Coach Jasvinder and other Generation Amazing senior members. These certificates were signed by Mr.Xavier which made them even more special for us to take them back to our homes.

Throughout this workshop I have learned many football activities and also gained enough knowledge about various life skills. I am very thankful to Generation Amazing and to Mr. Xavier Hernandez for providing such a big opportunity. I am really looking forward to seeing and meeting all my GAYA’s friends again.
